Saffron is, without any doubt, the most prized spice worldwide for its excellent flavoring and coloring properties. This spice has been used since ancient times not only for cooking, but as a medicinal remedy in religious offerings, as a dye for fabrics or in the manufacture of perfumes and cosmetics. For a kilo of saffron is necessary to collect approximately 200,000 flowers from the Crocus Sativus plant, also known as Saffron Rose. Then, manually, proceed to remove the stigma of each of the flowers which are roasted lightly to enhance their flavor and enhance their conservation.

The laborious process of harvesting the saffron explains the high price paid per kilogram. However, we must have in mind that the cost of using saffron in cooking is not as high because the amounts needed are very small.

Bernal Bodegas

In 2001 old olive oil mill was prepared for making and aging red wine of the tempranillo varietal. The grapes come from the family’s vineyard planted on the sandy area. From the beginning our aim is to produce - by the natural and original way with a long maceration process, showing the maximum expression of the “hairy tempranillo” of our land. Our wine is an achieement of the grape variety, ground and climate (elegant, chewe, with smooth and long tannins).

We have been doing tests of long macerations and aging with lees, as well as fermentations in oak barrels, looking for the highest expression of our grapes.

Bodega Martin Berdugo

We are a young, innovative and vibrant winery in the Ribera del Duero. We are fascinated by the world of wine and the possibility of trying new things. For this reason Martin Berdugo is a winery for daring people, who are willing to take chances; our wines express the nature and individuality of the fruit of our vines, using the latest technologies while all the time respecting the traditional methods.

We are obssessed by our vines, we know that the only way to make high quality wines is to take care of and manage the vineyard during the whole year. All of our wines are made exclusively from grapes grown in our own vineyards. In addition to the dry pruning done during the winter, we also do a strict green pruning and a cluster reduction, which makes our production way below the maximum limits permitted by the Consejo Regulador of the Ribera del Duero. This ensures higher quality fruit, which in turn ensures higher quality wine.

Altún Bodegas

José Antonio Martinez, as a perfectionist, started a selection of the vines in 1994. Since then, he’s been restlessly making great quality wines, creating Altún. He hasn’t settled with this and has kept on innovating and experimenting from the terroir. These selective wines are elaborated in facilities specially designed by him, where innovation and tradition unite in favour of quality.
